When the ugly sweater phenomenon took hold in the early aughts, an invite to an ugly sweater party required a trip to a vintage store, thrift shop or your grandma’s closet. If tacky knitwear sourcing wasn’t successful you'd make your own. Sure, it was cheesy (and I’ll never get behind an ugly outfit) but back then ugly sweater parties encouraged creativity and sustainable shopping. Not so much in 2022.
